The Inevitable Tap on the Shoulder

Yesterday, I was summonsed to a meeting room where my "boss" gave me the news that my Contract would be cut short due to me being too expensive, and my last day would be next Friday.
I am being replaced by a guy called Pinal. Pinal is cheap you see. Its irrelevant that he has no deep domain knowledge in Equities, Derivatives, & Investments in general. He is "affordable".
This is indicative of how my employer sees adding value to the bottom line of the business.
Lower the $ costs irrelevant of the quality costs.....
I'm secretly hoping it all goes "pear-shaped" within 3 months & I will come back on at a higher rate...

TripAdvisors New Flight Search Engine

tripadvisor.com.au/flights

Just road tested TripAdvisors new flight search engine.
Its basically a Metasearch engine which trawls through 4 local
online travel sites to compare prices. The 4 are: Expedia, Jetabroad, Zuji and BYOJet
I think they omitted a couple of other sites which should be in there, namely BestFlights, Direct flights and Webjet.
Navigation was simple & returning the results was fairly seamless and responsive.
I think its earnt the right to be added to my list of travel favourite bookmarks .

Samsung Galaxy S2

I really do like my Samsumg Galaxy S2 phone except for the following exceptions:

1. When you turn it on, not all the Applications saved to the SD Card appear on the page. They are greyed out. When you tap the icon, a message is displayed stating that the Application is not installed on the phone. The workaround for this is to turn it off & back on again which is frustrating because another app will be greyed out when you turn it back on.

2. I have found that the slightest bump can force the SD Card to be dislodged & all applications are not active. You need to turn the phone off, open the back & readjust the SD Card. Annoying!

3. Why does it take nearly 5 hours to charge from 20% battery life?

4. There is a gremlin in my phone which keeps readjusting the brightness on the display. This is intermittent.

5. My phone turns itself off at random intervals. You dont realise its off until you go to make a call or check an application which could of been off for a few hours.

6. The price of the phone (outright) cant be justified when compared to a HTC Desire HD which has virtually the same usability, content, & features but is half the cost. It was my previous phone. It had some minor issues, but not to the extent that I'm experiencing with the Samsung..

I will however remain with an Android phone....

Anniversary of a sad day

Today is the anniversary of the death of a girl I grew up with. She is the sister of a good mate. Tragically, she was exposed to Domestic Violence and died in the process.
She left behind her loving sisters, a brother, a father and the saddest part, a small child.
As per Maccas request, I will have a drink in her honour.
RIP Kate

Public Transport Etiquette

There are some rules of Public Transport which should be mandated worldwide:

1. Scrolling through your ringtone selection and trying everyone before making a selection is really annoying...
2. Deodorant - wear some!!
3. Excessive coversations on the phone about last nights date or other personal details...Nobody really cares how hot they were!!
4. Personal Maintenance - My favourite topic. Clipping of toenails, fingernails or squeezing of pimples is just bad. Noboby wants to witness or be involved in it!
5. Eating porridge from a thermoflask...do I need to say more...
6. Cracking of hard boiled eggs on the inside of the train window....WTF????

Please feel free to comment & add to the list

Birthday Weekend

Birthday Weekend - Another 52 weeks has passed since my last birthday. Although last years birthday celebrations were a milestone event, this years was no less enjoyable.
I managed to get out on my bike on one of the few days it hasn't been raining here in Sydney. I reached out to a mate from my Primary School years. Its been nearly 30 years since we last spoke. We reconnected through Facebook. Whether you like or dislike Facebook, the power of Social Networking is truly awesome.
Spent last night with friends watching a band at our local watering hole. The band itself is irrelevant. The fact that I was surrounded by my friends and people I enjoy, made the night.
Today was spent with family. They are truly generous people!
If all weekends were like this....

RANT

Received another email from our illustrious leader (G.K) about releasing the First Quarter 2012 Update to the Market.
A paltry Cash Earnings amount of $1.5 billion for the period was achieved.
Thanks all round were echoed through the correspondence.
Skip down 2 paragraphs it goes on to say that our cost base still needs to be lower and we are in difficult times.
In a nutshell, more local jobs will be siphoned off to Outsorced Offshore Companies leaving a huge gap in the local market. No domain experience but cheap & nasty...
G.K's parting sentence: "Thank you for your continued support"

Wednesday 15 February 2012

In setting up this blog, I thought “what do people really want to see and read about”.
I cant speak for the rest of the world, but daily capers, eluding work, saving for the next holiday, and general shenanigans pretty much does it for me!
